Our flagship brand holidaycottages.co.uk is very proud to have sponsored North Devon Hospice's wonderful event Mission: Unbreakable this year - a commando-style course filled with challenges.
More than 40 members of The Travel Chapter staff joined the hundreds of people taking part, bettering last year's tally of 18 and taking on the obstacle course set over 10km of muddy fields, rivers and marshland.
Gruelling challenges included climbing a hay bale pyramid, wading through icy waters and sprinting up a Gladiators-style travelator - the final test for weary legs. A brilliant team-building exercise, The Travel Chapter squad helped each other through every obstacle, across every kilometre and over the finish line.
As the Mission: Unbreakable motto goes: "It's not a race - you're only as fast as your slowest member."
James Starkey, The Travel Chapter Marketing Director, said: “We are proud to have sponsored this year’s Mission: Unbreakable, and to have taken part in the experience. It’s a fantastic event which raises vital funds for North Devon Hospice, and we congratulate them for once again organising a faultless day.
"The hospice is a wonderful charity which provides care and support for local people who are affected by life-limiting illness.”
The aim for this year’s Mission: Unbreakable was to raise £80,000 to fund two nurses on the hospice’s Bedded Unit, who care for those patients with the most severe symptoms round-the-clock.
"We provide care when patients are suffering from complex symptoms, which are unable to be managed at home," Kerry Milton, a nurse on the ward, explained. "We offer pain management around the clock to make people as comfortable as possible.
"The Bedded Unit is also very family-focused and we provide a great deal of support for the loved ones of patients staying with us, because it is a very tough time for them too. Some patients spend their final days with us, but most actually return home once we’ve been able to control their symptoms, and that gives us great joy."
A huge well done to everyone who took part, helped raise funds or volunteered - it was a fantastic event, and we're already looking forward to next year!
