We have a fantastic opportunity for a Report Writer/ Database Administrator and Systems Administrator to join our Technology team. You will be reporting to the Head of Systems and Data and be on hand to help with the day to day administration and maintenance of our various databases, providing data reporting and help with the administration of our internal systems. Successful candidates should have excellent teamworking skills and will be operating in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. This role may require the occasional trip away from Bideford to our Bristol office or suppliers.

We are looking for

We are looking for someone with:

  • At least 2yrs experience in a similar role or a IT related higher education qualification.
  • Competent in writing SQL queries and working with stored procedures.
  • Familiarity with data ETL process and the principles of database design.
  • A good understanding of technical systems.
  • A passion for self-improvement and learning new things.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A focus on quality and accuracy.
  • A positive, can-do attitude, flexible and a good team player.
  • Full driving licence

 Knowledge of the following is essential:

  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • SQL Server Management Studio

 Knowledge of the following is desirable:

  • SQL Server Reporting Services
  • SQL Server Integration Services
  • Report Builder
  • Cloud Data Platforms like BigQuery, Redshift, Azure
  • Experience with a BI tool
What will you be doing?

You will be required to assist the team in the day to day maintenance to ensure the smooth running of the systems. You'll be involved in the planning and development of the databases, as well as writing reports to surface valuable insights to the business. You will also be involved in systems projects to support the team achieve their goals.

Day to day duties will include:

  • Design and build reports to help create actionable insights across the business
  • Monitor performance of our databases and systems to ensure staff can carry out their roles effectively.
  • Write systems and database documentation
  • Control access permissions and privileges
  • Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
