Supporting the lifesaving work of our Charity of the Year, Air Ambulances UK

This year, we’ve partnered with a charity that saves lives every day, Air Ambulances UK (AAUK), a national charity set up to support the lifesaving work of the 21 air ambulance charities across the UK.

Each day, AAUK responds to over 134 urgent missions and medical emergencies, many requiring advanced pre-hospital critical care and rapid, lifesaving treatments before patient transferral to specialist hospitals.

These vital services are not funded by the NHS and are dependent almost entirely on public donations, so we decided to play our part in supporting their lifesaving work by supporting them as our Charity of the Year for the next two years.

Why TC has partnered with AAUK

As a business, we’re passionate about supporting charitable causes and advocating for important organisations that play a hugely positive role in our communities.

Supporting people and communities at a local level is our way of ensuring that everybody benefits from UK tourism. By sponsoring community initiatives, events, and supporting local charities and organisations, we’re committed to taking care of the places our guests love to holiday, and the people who live there (including our staff).

One of the ways we do this is through our Charity of the Year initiative.

Many of our holiday destinations are rural, and whilst they may be beautiful and incredible places to live, work and visit, their often remote locations mean, in most cases, the nearest hospital or ambulance can be quite some distance away. Air ambulances are a vital facet of the places our guests visit because they provide life-saving care and transport in areas with geographical barriers. This partnership reflects a shared understanding of the important role air ambulance charities play in our communities.

What we hope to achieve

Our hope over the next two years is to raise awareness of the lifesaving work the air ambulance charities do, while raising funds that help them continue to deliver critical care to those in need.

We’ll be hosting a variety of fundraising events that all colleagues can get involved in, and we’re encouraging all staff to set up their own challenges and fundraisers at their offices and individually, to support their nearest air ambulance charity and maximise our impact.

Mark Heaven, Head of National Corporate Fundraising at Air Ambulances UK, said: “We’re delighted to be named Travel Chapter’s Charity of the Year. By working together to raise awareness and crucial funds, we can help ensure air ambulance charities across the UK continue delivering critical care to patients when it matters most.”
