Travel Chapter's near-term science-based emissions reduction target approved by the SBTi

We are pleased to announce that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved Travel Chapter's near-term science-based emissions reduction target.

This milestone marks an important step in our sustainability journey and reflects our commitment to understanding, measuring and reducing greenhouse gas emissions across our business and value chain.

What is the SBTi?

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global organisation that enables companies to set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in line with climate science. The SBTi independently assesses targets against rigorous criteria to ensure they align with the level of action needed to address climate change.

By achieving approval of our near-term science-based target, Travel Chapter joins a growing community of organisations taking measurable action to reduce emissions and support the transition to a lower-carbon future.

A significant step forward for Travel Chapter

Travel Chapter previously set targets through the SBTi SME route. As the business has grown, we have transitioned to the more rigorous corporate target-setting pathway.

This transition required a substantially more detailed assessment of our emissions footprint, reporting methodologies and reduction targets. In particular, we undertook a comprehensive review of emissions across our value chain, including an expanded assessment of Scope 3 emissions.

Scope 3 emissions are often the most complex emissions to measure because they occur outside a company's direct operations and can include emissions associated with purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting and other value-chain activities.

By strengthening our reporting and improving the quality of our emissions data, we have developed a more complete understanding of our environmental impact and established a stronger foundation for future emissions reductions.

Why this matters

Climate change presents challenges for businesses, communities and destinations across the UK and beyond.

At Travel Chapter, we recognise the importance of taking a structured and evidence-based approach to reducing emissions. Science-based targets help ensure that our emissions reduction efforts are aligned with recognised climate science and are subject to independent review.

Achieving approval of our near-term target demonstrates our commitment to accountability, transparency and continuous improvement.

Looking ahead

While achieving target approval is an important milestone, it is only one step in our broader sustainability journey.

We will continue to improve the quality of our emissions data, work closely with suppliers and partners, and identify opportunities to reduce emissions across our operations and value chain.

We are proud of the progress made so far and look forward to building on this momentum in the years ahead, as we continue our work towards a more sustainable future.
