Restoring 1 million square metres of British woodland

At Travel Chapter, we’re proud to have reached an incredible milestone through our flagship holiday brand, holidaycottages.co.uk and its partnership with the RSPB to help restore British woodlands. As part of our B Corp Certification, we take pride in supporting our communities and protecting the environment for future generations. This partnership reflects our deep commitment to sustainability and reinforces our dedication to helping nature thrive.

British woodlands have been diminishing at an alarming rate. Recognising the urgent need for conservation and support, Travel Chapter and holidaycottages.co.uk joined forces with the RSPB in 2020, undertaking a long-term woodland restoration project designed to address the decline of native woodlands and their wildlife.

Our customers’ support

Thanks to our customers' continued support, we have reached a remarkable milestone of regenerating 1 million square metres of this vital habitat. Each booking made on holidaycottages.co.uk has contributed to restoring and protecting this invaluable resource. Today, we celebrate the collective impact of those efforts, marked by the restoration of woodland across four key RSPB reserves in the UK.

That’s 1 million square metres of thriving habitat for wildlife and for future generations.

More than a holiday destination

A bird scavenging some material to make a nest.

Our British woodlands are more than a picturesque escape; they’re vital for our environment and home to diverse wildlife. They absorb carbon dioxide, reduce flood risks, and support clean air and biodiversity. Ancient woodlands cover just 2.5% of the UK, making restoration crucial to protect these irreplaceable habitats.

Through your bookings, our RSPB partnership supports 2,150 species across four key reserves: Haweswater in the Lake District, Franchises Lodge in the New Forest, Gwenffrwd Dinas in Wales, and Glenborrodale in Scotland. These thriving woodlands are home to 130 bird species like pied flycatchers, 30 bee species vital for pollination, and mammals like pine martens and otters. Together, we’re helping wildlife flourish.
