The Travel Chapter tackle the Three Peaks

They fought through rain, wind and utter darkness, but in 29 hours, our intrepid wanderers completed the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

Chosen for the invaluable service they provide in remote and hard to reach communities across the Lakes and the North of England, team Travel Chapter hope to raise as much money as possible for the worthy cause. Faced with challenging and arduous conditions throughout, the team consisted of Richard Wild, Matt Anderson-Retter, Stephanie Horner, James Morris, Catherine Bellew, Emma Seymour-Sloan, Matt Rowe, Ed Pickard, Beth Horswill and Gary Thomason. They were assisted along the way by drivers Jon Brewer and Debbie McKenzie, aka Team Jebbie – essential for keeping up team morale, providing treats, and driving almost 1500 miles across the two days!

The first mountain to overcome was Snowdon, in Snowdonia National Park, Wales, standing at 1085m. The second of the challenges was Scafell Pike in the Lake District at 978m, with the third and final mountain standing the tallest of the lot, Ben Nevis in Scotland at 1345m.

Guides were on hand to instruct the team on what to expect from the weather conditions, the route itself, and how to stay safe prior to each climb, with huge thanks going to Tim at Snowdon, Sam in the Lake District, and Eve in Scotland for their words of wisdom and advice.

With harsh weather conditions and a severe lack of sleep, the group were pushed to their limits, but with team spirit and a constant desire to complete the mission for their chosen charity, the final climb was completed late into the evening as eight members made it to the last peak.

Though a hugely demanding and gruelling task, everyone who took part has spoken of how thrilling and memorable the experience was, particularly complimenting each other on how well they worked to keep each other going through difficult moments.

CEO James Morris, one of the ten to take part in the challenge, said of the experience:

“It was an incredible team performance, and what a challenge in really testing conditions both in the Lakes and Scotland.

“Thank you to everyone who either walked, drove, supported, joked, sponsored, laughed or cried to help us get through it!”

They may have only just completed this enormous feat, but there are already whispers around the office of what the next challenge in the pipeline could be!
